Jilena Albert, B.A.
Personal Experience and Professional Background
Jilena has a BA in English Literature with a Math minor from California State University, Los Angeles. She also holds an MA in Applied Behavioral Sciences from the Leadership Institute of Seattle at Whitworth University. Jilena received her teaching certificate in both elementary and secondary education from the University of Washington.
Jilena comes to Uplift from The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center School, where she tutored bone marrow transplant patients from all over the world. Jilena specialized in teaching language arts, math, and sciences in the school’s K-12 classroom. She also was responsible for developing the school’s core curriculum and planning daily learning activities for each child. Later, Jilena worked for Microsoft as both an editor and writer. Jilena got her first library card at age 4 and is still a voracious reader. She started tutoring at the age of 16 and has taught in one way or another for her entire life.
Jilena embraces diversity and brings a respectful, compassionate, and joyful approach to learning for each child. She especially enjoys helping students open to new ways of thinking, mobilize their inner resources, and create more success in their reading and writing.
